Gao Brothers
In the manner of Zhang Dali, the Gao Brothers, born in Jinan in 1956 and 1962, observe the evolution and the transformations of the contemporary Chinese society. A look they express through sculpture, photography, painting, theater or even performances. Sometimes satirical and mocking, their artworks, without being a caricature or a preach, do not spare any normative excess. Pauperization, loneliness of the individual, collapse of the traditional values, consumerism and political demagogy, or even identity taboos, speculation and wild urbanization, the subjects portray a warped China, bursted by the supremacy of the ultra-liberalism over the citizen, the being. An approach that finds with the digital techniques, highlighting the unspeakableness or repeating the absurd, a formidable weapon to relate the frenzied alienation of a complete society.
